Lois Rita (Lischwe) Nelson, of St. Louis, formerly of Brinktown, was born August 12, 1950, at Waynesville, a daughter of Joseph Jacob and Lucetta Clara (Gilk) Lischwe, and passed from this life Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Delmar Gardens South, St. Louis.

She was united in marriage August 19, 1972, at Brinktown, to Jimmie Joe “Jim” Nelson, and to this union, three children were born.

Lois was a graduate of the Dixon R-1 High School, Dixon, Mo, and the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo.  She grew up in the Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Brinktown, and at the time of her passing, was a member of the St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Sunset Hills.  Lois served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council 12323, Sunset Hills as well.  She was a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.  Lois enjoyed having lunch with friends, shopping at Goodwill, reading, gardening, cooking, sewing, and had made clothing for her children when they were little.

During her working life, Lois had been employed as Laboratory Manager for Missouri Baptist Health Center, Town and Country, and in the Microbiology Laboratory at St. Mary’s Hospital, Clayton, for thirty-five plus years prior to her retirement.

Those left to celebrate the life of Lois include:  Her husband, Jim, of their home in Sappington; three children, Dr. Stephanie J. Nelson, Sunset Hills; Eric J. Nelson and wife, Cameron, of Sherman Oaks, California; and Sara E. Nelson, St. Louis; two siblings, Ron Lischwe and wife, Teresa, of Bloomfield, Connecticut; and Joan Brundick and husband, Chris, of Argyle; brother-in-law, Tom Nelson, and wife, Vicky, of Belle; sister-in-law, Kathy Wansing, and husband, Alan, of Chesterfield; two paternal aunts, Anita Marie Lischwe SSND, age 93, of Bridgeton; and Sister Boniface Lischwe (Medical Mission), age 100, of  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; maternal aunts and uncles, Roland Gilk and wife, Tillie, of Albany, Minnesota; Connie Chock and husband, Eugene, of Albany, Minnesota; nephews; nieces; other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, on February 18, 1998; her mother, Lucetta, on September 26, 2010; paternal aunts and uncle, Sister Tarsilla Lischwe SSND, Sister Michael Marie Lischwe (Sisters of St. Mary), and Rev. Bruno Lischwe; maternal uncles, Oliver Gilk at age 18 from Polio, Alda Mae Mayers, and husband, Ray, Gertie Gilk and husband, Herbert Gilk; her father-in-law, Theron Nelson, on September 10, 2002;  and her mother-in-law, Lavon Nelson, on November 5, 2006.

Visitation for Mrs. Lois (Lischwe) Nelson will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023, in Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 37487 Highway N, Brinktown, Mo 65443, with her Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Rev. Basil Tigga as the celebrant and Deacon Michael Brooks assisting, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Interment for Mrs. Lois (Lischwe) Nelson will be in the Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery, Brinktown.  Pallbearers for Mrs. Nelson will be Jamie Wansing, Josh Wansing, Jake Brundick, Shannon Nelson, Vaughan Barbarick, and Chase Barbarick, and her honorary pallbearers will be Joe Lischwe, Tim Lischwe, Dr. Dan Lischwe, and Krystle Lischwe.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Lois (Lischwe) Nelson are suggested by her family to be used for Masses or to the Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the church the day of her service or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, Mo 65582.
